Our Fortieth Flieger
Helmut Sinn’s eponymously named watch brand has been making nigh-on indestructible watches since 1961. Technologies pioneered by Sinn Spezialuhren have included: reflection-free diving dials, submarine-steel watch cases, air-dehumidifying technology and lubricant-free anchor escapements. So, you’d be right to expect that Sinn watches are particularly resistant to daily wear and tear.
For our 40th Anniversary we’ve taken Sinn into unfamiliar territory by releasing an intentionally distressed brown dial variant of the Sinn 356 Flieger. It’s a radical but welcome departure from the austere monochromatic dial normally found on the popular pilots’ chronograph. The exposed brass baseplate shines through an erratically distressed dial, resulting in a sort of perfect imperfection; reminiscent of Kintsugi – the art of finding beauty in the imperfect, by repairing broken pottery with golden adhesive.
The Sinn x The Hour Glass Commemorative Edition is a tri-compax pilot chronograph with a day/date aperture at 3 o’clock, running seconds (with red arrow-tipped seconds hand) at 9 o’clock and 12 and 30 minute chronograph counters at 6 and 12 o’clock, respectively. The bead-blasted 38.5 mm x 15.5 mm steel case is capped off with a retro-style domed acrylic crystal and is water-resistant to 10 bar, anti-magnetic and shock-resistant. Not only is this one of the most wearable Commemorative Editions we’ve released, it also features a plethora of useful complications and can withstand the rigours of daily wear. Numbered and Limited to 100.
